In case you did not know it... the generation we know as the Baby Boomers isn't getting any older. Yup, many boomer clients i have just stopped counting all together,... or at least that is what I hear from them. And with advances in healthcare permitting this demographic to have longer life expectancies, the boomers are figuring out there might be more "life" in them than just a rocking chair on a porch. After all, how long have we been hearing that "80" is the new "60." Now the boomers are giving real consideration to second or even third careers but also where and how they will live these blessed years they have been given after the traditional age of retirement. So... What is the "ultimate" in boomer housing? As a design professional and a boomer as well, I 've been pontificating about the need to make all housing free of architectural barriers. . . what we call in the trade accessible,... especially for boomers. Doing so provides them with homes spaces that provide comfort, add security, increases the value of the real estate and supports their personal independence. In the midst of this boomer evolution, green and eco-friendly design principles can help this generation live in homes and houses that not only support the quality of life but to live longer lives in a healthy environment. And when the time comes that extra care is needed, their homes and houses can be a part of the caregiver team. Yup, while boomers may be going grey... they can also be going green.
