Phillips Residence / Kitchen Design
This is the private client page where we communicate the various details, components and aspects of your project. Here we will include the cabinet layout, wall elevations and 3-D perspectives, a few project notes to keep in mind and some images of suggested materials based on our initial conversations. Periodically we may update this web page to reflect the version changes and natural evolution in the design. Think of it as a timeline plus you'll be able to access the information 24/7. And once we've completed the project and installed the cabinetry, counters and hardware, we'll add completed pictures of the final project as a record of your project.
Version 2 / Revised Kitchen Plan
Changes To the Layout As Of May, 2017
Project Notes:
There are three primary objectives that are vital to the success of any kitchen project. The first is establishing the work triangle. Since the primary tasks in a kitchen are carried out between the cooktop, the sink and the refrigerator, these three imaginary lines act as a guide in the placement of the appliances and plumbing. For an average size kitchen, the three sides of the triangle should add up to 14 to 24 feet to ensure the best traffic pattern. |
The second objective is to achieve a certain balance between the various base, wall and tall-pantry cabinets. While "symmetry" is a good basic rule to follow to achieve such balance, keep in mind that it may not always provide the most interesting layout. Create a focal point that sets the overall height and work the rest of the layout from there.
And finally,... since cabinetry isn't changed likely to be changed just to follow some trend, stay with classic, timeless styles that can age beautifully and never seem to go out of date. With that said, a design can still be ramped up with the selection of interesting counter and backsplash materials, great hardware for the doors and drawers and maybe a accent of color in wall finishes or in pendant lighting. These items are somewhat easier to replace or update rather than ripping out cabinetry and starting over just because TV shows and magazine articles say so.
