Project 1209: Up In The Air : At Home In A Mid-Rise.

This Phoenix Condo Is A Retreat For Clients + Their Art.

Bamboo flooring extends from the entry thru the halls, into the great room and kitchen creating a unifying effect that visually expands the space.

"There is a consistent touch of Asian influence that starts with a large eight panel Coromandel screen that greets visitors at the front door spotlighted with LED lighting from above,"  the designer Michael Thomas said about his design.   "It fills the space with drama and gives the hall an architectural character rather than one long sheetrock box."
The pub-height dining table means everyone is at a bar stool height which gives an enhanced view over the leather seating in the great room and beyond toward the skyline, a view that is wonderful at dusk with a view of Papago buttes and the planes flying into Sky Harbor at night.

The second bedroom serves as the home office with great daylight views thru the solar screen blinds.  Storage in the double closet hides the wireless Internet connects so it is just as likely to find one of the residents on the sofa in the great room or on the large terrace while cruising the web with the laptop or iPad.

The view from the terrace changes with the time of day but they love living in an urban area and being a part of the heartbeat of Phoenix.

The Optima Biltmore Towers is a prestigious urban community right in the heart of the Camelback Corridor in Phoenix, AZ.  This two bedroom, two bath residence created by interior designer Michael A. Thomas, FASID was designed from the beginning to be timeless, functional but most important, to be comfortable for the clients.

The clients wanted a space that would reflect their tastes in style but keep it functional despite being in just under 1,400 square feet. The success to making this work is the warm light amber and yellow tones on the walls and floors that weave their way thru out the interiors of this city apartment.

With an evolving collection of art an important part of the design criteria, the clients had to make choices since finding enough wall surfaces wasn't always easy considering the large expanses of glass that overlook the Biltmore Fashion Park and beyond, the Piestewa Peak.

According to one of the owners, "What makes living at the Optima Biltmore Towers so great is the proximity to the AMC "dine-in" theatre, a short walk to True Foods and the Apple Store, all within 5 minutes walk from door to door."   But it is also the amenities like the pool and spa on the roof level that affords 360 degree views of the valley, two BBQ grills, plus teak dining tables and chairs.

The master bedroom features a storage for clothes, books and a place for the art to continue into the private quarters.

The low-voltage cable lighting suspended from the ceiling allows the bedroom to be lit during early morning hours but is most dramatic during the evening.

The master bath repeats the color scheme with a Benjamin Moore color called Oklahoma Wheat.  With a slight sheen to the paint, the walls seem to glow like built-in sunshine.

Plenty of lighting, large landscape mirror and double sinks makes it easy for the couple to share the space during the early morning hours.

"For the two of us, this place fits us perfectly.  We continue to be amazed with the results and enjoy the work your created as a place for all our treasured possessions."
