SENIOR TSUNAMI
The first wave of Baby Boomers are already in their fifties but it doesn’t mean they are slowing down. Surveys by groups such as AARP and the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) indicate this active group expects to live fruitful lives, travel, work and play for as long as their abilities permit. In fact, the US Center for Disease Control says that men will likely live well into their early 80s while women will live several more years.

ARE YOU A BABY BOOMER TOO?
I am one of 76 million people born in the United States between 1946 and 1964. And as we approach our third stage of life, my group is poised to make a significant political, social and economic impact here in the United States. We baby boomers are predicted to live longer, healthier, work well into retirement, and all with a passion for life, liberty and the pursuit of independence.  We need qualified aging in place residential design.

And as we anticipate our later years, our segment of the population has already begun to contemplate what life will be as we age, what physical challenges we may encounter and what kind of living spaces we might need so that we can remain living independently for as long as possible.

This demographic shift in the population will require interior design, architectural, home building and health care communities to help our group secure, find and design safe, universal style, accessible environments, free of most physical barriers that might impact our daily lives.
